Lifeline
The Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary purchased
a new Lifeline Response Center in January 2002 and is
currently accepting new clients. Lifeline is a personal
response service designed to give individuals confidence
to continue to live independently in their own home
- doing things for themselves. This is done by ensuring
individuals that they know whenever they need help,
it is just a button push away.
To call for help, an individual in need simply has
to press the Personal Help Button that is worn as a
stylish pendant or wristband. The Personal Help Button
activates a small in-home communicator that automatically
dials the Lifeline Response Center at ORHC. Within seconds,
the call will be answered by one of the ORHC"s
Lifeline Monitors.
"The new system is wonderful," says David
Howard, Lifeline Monitor. "With just a touch of
a button, all the user's information shows up on our
screen which makes it easier for us to help them faster."
The Lifeline Response Center offers individuals and
their loved ones peace of mind, independence, early
intervention and reassurance. He helps you preserve
your independence by giving you the confidence to continue
to live where you want, in your own home, enjoying a
lifetime of memories. Lifeline is like insurance. You
may never need it, but if you do you'll be glad you
have it. "It is reassuring to our clients to know
that if they have a sudden illness or injury, help will
be on the way in a matter of minutes, even if they can't
speak or move," says Howard. "It may mean
dispatching an ambulance or simply calling their neighbor
to check in on them."
Ottumwa Regional Health Center is the only facility
in our ten-county service area that never charges an
installation fee to provide the Lifeline Response Center
in your home. The monthly fees for Lifeline through
Ottumwa Regional Health Center are also the lowest in
the state. Cost is just $26-$40 per month and the fees
remain the same no matter how often you call or how
long you talk.
Lifeline is easier to use than a phone in an emergency.
All you do is press you Personal Help Button and within
seconds you are talking to a trained Monitor. You will
never get a machine or a recorded message, and if you
cannot speak, your information will automatically appear
on the trained Monitor's screen and they will send help.
"Our clients don't mind wearing their Personal
Help Buttons because they are stylish," says Julie
Carter, Director of Volunteer Services. "They look
just like a regular pendant or watch, not like a medical
device."
The Lifeline system can be used from any room in your
house, or even outside in your yard, up to 100 ft. away
from your system. The Personal Call Buttons are also
100% WATERPROOF and should be worn in the shower or
bath where most falls and accidents occur.
We encourage you to press your Personal Call Button
at least once a month, just to let you know that we
are there. For more information, Call 641-684-2410.
