Guidelines for Group Tours

Scheduling: To schedule a tour, please contact Julie Carter, Director of Volunteer Services at 641-684-2350 or Misty Varner, Marketing Assistant at 641-684-3122. Two weeks prior notice of requested tour will allow adequate time for scheduling and preparation. Please be prepared to provide all of the pertinent information such as number of tour participants, number of chaperones, if interested in a correlation between subject matter at school and the human body/anatomy, career goals, etc…
Cancellations: If for any reason you must cancel your scheduled group tour, please call Julie Carter or Misty Varner AND Human Resources at 641-684-2405 and leave a message for both as soon as this decision is made.
Age range: Depending on the age of the tour group, the schedule amount of time for the tour and the appropriate department presentations will be arranged.
Caring Bear: A Caring Bear appearance may be scheduled at the time of tour request through Julie Carter or Misty Varner for kids in Pre-School - 2nd grade. Every effort will be made to provide a bear appearance.
Exceptions: If the tour is requested during the flu season and there are many patients in the hospital, we will be unable to accommodate a tour at that time. This is due to infection control reasons to protect both Ottumwa Regional Health Center's inpatients, staff and tour participants.

If anyone in the group has a cold, sore throat, coughing , etc. or other contagious illnesses, they will not be allowed to tour the hospital at that time due to infection control reasons.

Ottumwa Regional Health Center will make every effort to accommodate educational tours, but as with any medical care facility, if a medical emergency arises, the staff who are scheduled to make the presentations to the tour group may be called away to attend to the emergency. This scenario is beyond anyone's control. Every effort will be made to meet the objectives of the tour group and its coordinators.

Valuables

We have designed a valuables policy which is intended to insure safe keeping of patient valuables. The policy will be explained to you upon admission by the nursing staff caring for you. Please follow the procedure for jewelry, credit cards and/or money (except for a small sum for incidentals) which should be sent home or secured in the Health Center Safe upon arrival. It is important to follow the policy as Ottumwa Regional Health Center assumes no responsibility if personal items are lost or misplaced. If you do leave personal belongings behind, they will be taken to the Information Desk and you will be notified.
