Caring Bear
Caring
Bear is Ottumwa Regional Health Center's official mascot.
Caring Bear "Your Friend for Life" is a big
pink bear that was created in 1983 for the main purpose
of demonstrating that Ottumwa Regional Health Center
is a caring institution.
Over the years, Caring Bear has also helped educate
children in Southeast Iowa in their classrooms and during
their visits to the health center.
Classroom Visits
Caring Bear visits local pre-schools and elementary
schools, grades K-2 and teaches kids the importance
of washing their hands to stay healthy and prevent the
spread of infection. During these visits, Caring Bear
shows a five-minute video on correct handwashing technique,
featuring himself and some of his pre-school friends,
and then holds a question and answer session with the
kids. Before he leaves, the kids get the chance to give
Caring Bear a hug and Caring Bear gives them a sticker
and personal-size bar of soap to take home with them.
